The School's Commitment

The Act of Kindness Award program raises awareness of the power of being considerate to others whilst underpinning existing values programs being conducted in schools. It also provides an outstanding opportunity to develop co-operative partnerships between schools and the wider community.

Introducing and establishing the Act of Kindness Award into a school community is an empowering commitment. This Award recognises spontaneous kind gestures or generous behaviour displayed by students towards others. In later years it can also be presented in recognition of kind deeds or acts performed by members of the wider community who are nominated by teachers or students at your school.

The minimum commitment available to The Act of Kindness Award is one full year (being four successive school terms). However, we strongly recommend each sponsor supports an Award for a period of three years. This supports consolidation of a positive school/industry partnership over the longer term.

The Association requests that interested schools find their own sponsor for The Act of Kindness Award - however, we also welcome expressions of interest from prospective schools. In the past is has sometimes been possible for the Association to bring interested schools and sponsors together after Marion has appeared as the guest speaker at service and business club dinners or educational conferences. If you know of an organisation prepared to host an event of this type please contact her.

We understand that schools become aware of The Act of Kindness Inc. and its award programs at different times throughout the year. Accordingly, we accept four intakes per year commencing at the beginning at the beginning of each term. Every participating school is required to appoint an Act of Kindness coordinator: e.g. principal/deputy principal, well-being officer, Chaplain or student counsellor. This person will be our designated ‘first point of contact’ until otherwise advised. Although new registrations will be accepted at any time during the year - they must to be completed online no later than the last week of the preceding school term by the appointed representative in order to facilitate commencement at the start of the next term.

Cost an of Award at schools with an enrolment of more than 75 students in 2010

In 2010 the total cost of sponsoring one Act of Kindness Award weekly over four consecutive school terms, (commencing at the beginning of any school term) in schools with an enrolment of more than 75 students is A$750.

Cost of an Award at schools with an enrolment of 75 students or less in 2010

In 2010 the total cost of sponsoring one Act of Kindness Award fortnightly over four consecutive terms in schools with an enrolment of 75 students or less is A$450.

Joint sponsorship of an Award is possible

Sometimes it becomes necessary to secure joint sponsorship of an Act of Kindness Award. If you choose this option, additional charges will apply where more than one framed Kind Organisation certificate is required for presentation. In this circumstance the total cost of an Act of Kindness Award sponsored by two organisations/families becomes A$800 (for schools >75) or A$500 (for schools with 75 or less) in 2010.

Schools are not responsible for paying the cost of an Act of Kindness Award unless they decide to self sponsor.  The Act of Kindness Inc. automatically invoices nominated sponsor/s upon completion of the Association's online registration form by the appointed representative from the partner school, unless otherwise advised.

Online Registrations can be made at any time of the year by schools - usually by each school's Act of Kindness coordinator in consultation with their Award sponsor.

Core Values

Every school participating in The Act of Kindness Award program is expected to widely promote its Mission, Vision and Values within their school and throughout their local community.

Member schools are asked to encourage full staff participation in the three steps that lead to The Act of Kindness Award - being Observation, Conversation and Celebration - in accordance with the Association’s guidelines.

Your relationship with The Act of Kindness Inc.

We ask all members of staff and students to become Ambassadors for The Act of Kindness Award.

Principals and teachers are encouraged to actively promote their school’s membership of the program within local school clusters and across wider education networks.

Act of Kindness Award recipients and the Award sponsor organisations must receive acknowledgement in the next available school newsletter following a presentation ceremony.

Participating schools are expected to display an Act of Kindness Award animated web banner (to be supplied by TAoK Inc.) on their Home Page with a hyperlink to www.theactofkindness.org.au

Every school is encouraged to create a Kindness Wall in a public area of their premises. The area will provide an appropriate venue for the display of the school's Kind School Certificate and recent photographs of Act of Kindness Award recipients. However, if there is insufficent space available for a Kindness Wall, your school may prefer to create a Presentation Folder which can be placed on public display.

A pro-rata number of Award certificates, badges/pins and photo mounts will be delivered to every school offering an Act of Kindess Award fortnightly over four consecutive schools terms where the appropriate sponsorship fee is paid to cover schools with an enrolment of 75 students or less in 2010.

Thereafter, all schools are asked to invite their Award sponsor/s to become regular presenters whenever an Act of Kindness Award is to be presented at a school Assembly or Awards ceremony.

All Award recipients and the school’s sponsor will thereafter receive appropriate acknowledgement in the next school newsletter.

All schools are required to forward a copy of the weekly school newsletter featuring the Act of Kindness Award recipient and sponsor business to their sponsor organisation.

All schools are expected to warmly welcome regular participation by their Award sponsor in the wider range of activities undertaken by members of the school community.
